The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center in the Sam M. Walton College of Business will host a Small Business Innovation Research/Business Technology Transfer Phase I Proposal Writing Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development on the University of Arkansas campus.

Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs provide $2.5 billion in federal grants and contracts each year for research with commercial potential. This interactive, hands-on workshop will help participants plan and complete a Phase I program proposal.

“Entrepreneurs interested in securing federal grants for technology research and development can benefit from this daylong workshop,” said Bill Fox, center director of the Walton College Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center. “The workshop will include direction from experts who have tons of experience in proposal writing for these grants.”

Workshop instructor Sharon Ballard will focus on technology research and development proposal writing.

Instructor Sharon Ballard of EnableVentures Inc. will focus on two areas key to winning funding: the work plan and the commercialization plan. She also will lead in-class exercises that help in outlining and writing successful proposals.

Program managers from the Naval Sea Systems Command will participate in the workshop to share details about Department of Defense research interests and how to win contracts through department programs. The Department of Defense awards more than $1 billion a year in such projects.

Northwest Arkansas researchers, entrepreneurs and technology companies – including those in advanced materials, electronics, medical diagnostics and treatments and advanced engineering – are invited.

Workshop fee is $50; pre-registration is required.
